The Sun Odyssey 409 won in the most competitive category of sailboats for its brand new design, excellent performance at sea, all-new concept, interior fit and finish, robust construction and ease of handling. Jochen Rieker, Editor in Chief of Yacht and initiator of the trophy, had this to say: “After several days of test sails in IJmuiden and in Barcelona, in ideal conditions with moderate gusts to strong winds, above all, we saw a trend among boat builders to place the accent on the pleasure of sailing. Could this be the new trend in cruising?”
After years of placing the accent particularly on comfort and interior volume under the deck, the Sun Odyssey 409 has won the favour of the jury against strong competition in the category of large, “family cruiser” sailboats, including Dufour, Bavaria, Delphia, Ovni and Sun beam. The strengths of the Sun Odyssey 409 include: a variable sail plan that is easy to handle in all weather conditions and with reduced crew; a cockpit that is perfectly adapted for ease of movement and facilitates manoeuvres; a lively performance under sail; elegant lines and solid construction. The Sun Odyssey 409 is clearly in line with the new trend toward “pleasure sailing,” and she makes a strong début for the new generation of Sun Odysseys.
